Waking Gods (Themis Files 2) by Sylvain Neuvel

I received this book for free on a Goodreads giveaway after I had heard about the series and was interested in reading both books. Once I got this second one I immediately got the first book and finished both books within 2 days, safe to say I LOVE these books and will be recommending it to everyone I can!

This book is a somewhat darker take on sci-fi and aliens. It's also not just seeing another life form that looks like a "typical alien"; weird shaped heads, animal eyes, different skin color, a lizard like creature. Instead it's finding giant pieces of a robot made out of enhanced metals but still something we can understand, these others are still a likeness of us. This concept of there being something else out there, that maybe all we've come to do is because someone else guided us or made it possible in the first place is such an intriguing concept but so scary at the same time.

Neuvel is also extremely creative with his unique writing style which I mentioned in my review of the first book, Sleeping Giants. The books are written as "interviews" and/or recorded dialogue between characters, news reports and some personal journal entries. I loved this because I wasn't bored with explanations of what rooms looked like or too many physical explanations of outfits, etc. instead, it created these complex characters all while moving the story along or explaining some of the science behind things which I found so interesting.

Now I just have to know if there's going to be a third book because this one ends with that open possibility but not necessarily a cliff-hanger like the first one did. Here's to hoping because I need more of this amazing story! Read it!!

Synopsis: As a child, Rose made an astonishing discovery: a giant metallic hand, buried deep within the earth. As an adult, she's dedicated her brilliant scientific career to solving the mystery that began that fateful day. Years of investigation have produced intriguing answers - and even more perplexing questions. But the truth is closer than ever before when a second robot, more massive than the first, materializes and lashes out with deadly force.
