I read Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward Series a few years ago as the books were being released, and I really enjoyed the characters and world he built. No surprise there, since he always manages to create such amazing books and worlds.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this spin-off set in the same world, especially since he co-wrote it with another author. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy the continuation of the series as much, but I’m really glad I decided to request an ARC and read it once approved, because I ended up really enjoying this book and am excited to continue reading more about these characters.
We do get a few of the same secondary characters from the Skyward Series, but now they are the main characters, so we get more of their opinions, personalities, and feelings. There are also some great new characters introduced that I’m excited to learn more about.
There’s definitely plenty of action and new conflict introduced in this story, and by the end I was dying to know what happens to these characters next.
Sometimes I do feel like these books are a little too young for me since they are more YA, and the dialogue and teen angst can be a bit much at times. But I enjoy the world and sci-fi aspect enough that I can look past that and still really enjoy the overall story.
Overall, I’m glad I gave this one a chance, and I’m definitely looking forward to continuing the series!
